Quite frankly one of the worst dining experiences I have ever had. The resturant, hidden from the street and nestled between a hair salon and an Indian Resturant (to be reviewed at a later time), is actually located in a prime location for a romantic evening. I must say, being able to dine on the water would certainly initially appear to be quite a way to spend an evening with the one you love.
Well, looks can be deceiving! Arriving at around 7:00 PM, on a Saturday, my girlfriend and I were promptly seated at a nice table, next to a window, overlooking the water. What a wonderful idea to have live piano music in a Chinese resturant. With only an hour and twenty minutes until we had to catch a movie - at a theater located just a few doors down - I was ready to order. But first we had to flag down a waiter!
Our Meal:
Soup: Minced chicken and corn soup.
Main Course: Garlic Chicken and Lemon
Chicken---served with steamed rice.
Problems: :(
1) I had to flag down a waiter.
2) The glasses of water that we were given were not even filled
all the way up.
3) The waiter was rude.
4) Garlic Chicken- dark fatty pieces of meat, which had grissle
in what seemed like every other piece.
5) Lemon Chicken- served deep fried and heavly breaded. The lemon
sauce was served on the side and tasted like the
smell of Lemon Pledge. Even the lemon chicken - which, at first,
seemed like it was all white meat, had grissle.
6) It took quite a while for our food to reach the table.
7) The waiter spilled water and ice on my plate and walked away
saying nothing at all.
8) I asked the waiter for a knife and he never gave me one.
9) The waiter never once came to our table to see how we were
doing.
10) I had to track down our waiter and ask for the bill.
Redeeming Qualities: :)
1) Nice ambiance. (Next to the water)
2) A live piano player ( Very talented)
3) The minced chicken and corn soup was very good.
4) The steamed rice was very good.
As a reviewer for resturants, I like to give each bad review a
second chance. If the Taipan Bistro wishes to contact
iHunger.com, I would be more than happy
to revisit the resturant, retract my review (assuming changes
have been made) and
write a review illustrating the positive changes. -JJ-
